New posts are not added here very often because we try to keep this site as simple as possible. Updates are made almost daily to the site based on data as it comes in from the FTDNA.
Many participants have their match preferences in their FTDNA account settings at a low resolution setting that is matching participants that are so distantly related that we cannot even Group the matches. This is generating massive numbers of email notifications, often wasting everyone’s time. Please review your match settings at your FTDNA account and adjust to a higher resolution for notifications. We do not Group any results for testing levels under 37 Markers.
Also, there are many participants who have “joined” the HILL DNA PROJECT only for the purpose of finding collateral relations with no Y-DNA connection to any HILL participants. Many of these participants have their match notifications set very low as well, also generating massive numbers of email notifications. For participants only searching for collateral relation research, you will find better HILL lineage information on this (www.hilldna.com) website by using the SEARCH feature.
For either of the above situations, again… if you are receiving too many match email notifications from the FTDNA, please log on to your FTDNA account page and adjust your preferences to a higher resolution.
Welcome to the HILL DNA Project, a scientific approach to finding our ancestors including Hill, Hills, and other variants of the name. Since 2002, our project has been one of the largest DNA surname support groups affiliated with Family Tree DNA. We have more than six hundred participants and have identified more than sixty distinct Hill lines. Enjoy the website!
Here is how it works. Simply go to Family Tree DNA (www.familytreedna.com) and order your test kit. We suggest ordering at least the 37 marker Y-DNA test. Most of our participants have been tested at the 67 marker level. Family Tree DNA will send you your test kit. Follow the instructions and send your kit in. You will be given an account page at Family Tree DNA (make sure you join the Hill DNA group through your account page). After about five weeks, your results will be reported to you, and if you have joined the Hill DNA group, your results will simultaneously be reported to us here at www.hilldna.com. We will group you with your matched HILL group at the Family Tree DNA website and here on this website. What we offer here (for free) is a more detailed place for you to share information with your fellow matched participants. We also maintain an Unmatched Participants page for those whose DNA is in process or for those still awaiting a match.
Group 6 member David Hill has started a website/blog dedicated to Group 6 that you may find useful at: www.hillfamily.org
Please take a look at our Sponsorship Request page. You may find a connection there waiting for a little assistance with the testing fee. Also, the Sponsorship Request page is the perfect page to post offers if you are willing to sponsor someone.
IMPORTANT: To review the FTDNA published scale by which we group matched participants…. click HERE.
If you are showing as matched and grouped accordingly on the FTDNA site but do not see your lineage posted here in your Group, please make sure you submit your lineage here for posting within your Group. You can submit your basic lineage to: firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you!
If you have not logged on your FTDNA (Family Tree DNA) account in a while, please do so and make sure your contact information (ESPECIALLY YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS) is up-to-date. If your email address is no longer valid, matching participants will not be able to reach you. If you have lost your password or log-in information for your FTDNA account, send an email with your KIT Number to email@example.com and ask for your log-in info.
There are 630 HILL participants at Family Tree DNA! The goal of the HILL DNA PROJECT website (the website you are viewing now) is to accurately group and display the results in a way that makes it easy for you to connect with other participants who share your ancestry as matched via DNA. Thank you for joining one of the first and largest DNA projects at FTDNA.
If you are expecting results sufficient enough for being connected with one of our DNA Groups, PLEASE DO NOT order the 12 Marker or 25 Marker test. We no longer group testing results less than 37 Markers.
