GROUP 13
(Haplotype R1b)
ANALYSIS OF GROUP 13a PARTICIPANT DATA (provided by FTDNA 1/19/07). Contents of the email from FTDNA are posted here for as much clarification as possible:
Thanks for your email. Attached is an excel spreadsheet that shows my interpretation of the results. Please keep in mind that I know nothing of the paper trails that connect these individuals and I am only matching them up off the DNA evidence at hand.
I would say that the group as a whole is definitely related. However, I would break them up into 3 groups based on their mutations. On the excel sheet, I split them into 13a, b, and c, and put the likely Modal Haplotype for the ancestor of the entire group across the top of the chart. Since 13b is the closest to the modal haplotype for the group as a whole, my theory would be that this group broke off from the others first. Then the 13a/13c group developed a mutation on 456 (from 15 to 16) and on 576 (from 19 to 18) before breaking into 2 groups. Then after 13a and 13c split off, the 13a group developed another mutation at 576. The personal mutations, such as 4050s 17 at 456 and 47607s 12 at 460 all developed after the individuals broke off from their groups. It's possible that even the score of 38 at CDYb for kits 25413 and 36583 represents a separate line.
Of course, this is only my theory based on the mutations at hand, and I know nothing of their family history and how they are connected.
Group 13a is clearly related to 13b but they are a distinct branch, based on their scores on 576 and 456. 4050 appears to have developed a second mutation at 456 and one at 458 in the time since his ancestor split off from the other two kits in 13a.
(NOTE: Data from the Excel Sheet referred to above was transferred to the results page).
