A scientific approach to finding our ancestors

including HILL, HILLS, and other variants of the surname HILL

How to Join

To take the DNA test, you need to be a male with the HILL surname. Your Y-Chromosome, and that of your father, your brothers, your father's brothers and sons (males with HILL surname) will be identical (except for rare situations). If you are female HILL descendant, encourage your father or brother to take the test if your maiden name is Hill, otherwise your male Hill cousins, uncles, etc. will work.

What is the procedure?

Just send me an email (gbh333@gmail.com) with the the following:

1-The participant's name

2-Mailing address (where the Kit is to be sent)

3-Phone number (optional)

4-Email address of the participant, or the researcher, or the sponsor (one email address is required)

5-Tell me who is to be invoiced for the test.

5-Tell me the desired test (I recommend the 37 Marker Y-DNA test. 12 Marker tests are not conclusive enough to group the results on our site.)

The participant will receive a test kit within the week.  The participant will be invoiced for the cost unless someone is sponsoring or paying for a participant. If you are sponsoring or paying for a participant, include your name, address, phone number and email address when you contact me and I will have the invoice portion of the package sent to you (not the participant).

After you return your kit (which is basically a cheek swab), the FTDNA will send your kit to a lab at the University of Arizona where they will analyze the DNA of your y-chromosome segments. The results are then returned to you and FTDNA. The time-frame, from sending in your kit until the time you receive your results, is usually about five weeks.

When you order a DNA kit, you are assigned a kit number which allows only you to view the results of your DNA test on FTDNA's website and here at the HILL DNA PROJECT website. FTDNA will assist in interpreting the results. We will also display the participant's results on this website for comparison purposes, using your kit number, rather than your name. We will not reveal your name or the name of any living person in your line without you allowing us to show that information.
